CIRI Wins Elders Program Lawsuit.

The federal district court for the District of Alaska recently ruled that CIRI's Elders' Benefit Program is legal and dismissed a lawsuit that had been brought by a group of shareholders challenging the program, company officials said. The plaintiffs argued, among other things, that CIRI was

prohibited from making distributions to elders not given to every other shareholder on a per-share basis. CIRI argued that the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act of 1971 expressly permitted such payments and the court agreed. The plaintiffs have 30 days to appeal the ruling.
