Thanks to kiva.org we all have the opportunity for making a difference in the world without it costing us anything on the whole.  It is a website where people can become microfinanciers by lending developing world entrepreneurs money to finance their businesses.  Why this makes a difference is because it helps people move from poverty to being businesspeople.  The reason it is almost risk free is because 99.7% of the loans are repaid, meaning there is almost no risk to you making a difference in the world.  No bank in the world advertises that kind of repayment rate.

Matt and Jessica Flannery founded kiva.org after working in East Africa with fledgling entrepreneurs who with a little help seemed to go far.  Their experiences motivated them to create the website, which encourages people to lend from $25 and up to developing world businesspeople.  At this point there are $10 million in loans from over 101,000 people and the amounts are growing daily.

As people from countries who enjoy a life of plenty, we have an obligation to spread this wealth around and improve the conditions all over the world.  By improving the world as a whole, we make it a better place for all of us to live.
