There are hundreds of local and regional shippers located around the country. Some, like California Overnight, only ship within the state of California and to the neighboring cities of Reno and Las Vegas. Others cover a slightly larger regional area — the Pacific Northwest, for example. These firms offer a wide range of services, and their prices vary much more than the major national shipping companies. While most of them deliver reliable service at a reasonable price, it's also true that some regional shippers don't provide the kind of service — or the same delivery guarantees — that you would expect from a company such as FedEx or United Parcel Service (UPS).
A regional shipping company can save you money, however, especially if your clientele are mostly local customers. For example, seven-year-old California Overnight charges only $7.75 for an overnight letter delivered within California before 10 a.m. FedEx rates for the same letter start at $11.
Before you entrust your business to a regional shipper, get some references, ask about their service guarantees, and make sure you're getting what you pay for.
