Peru's FCA to Switch to CNG-fueled Locomotives.
Reuters reported last week that Peruvian railway company Ferrocarril Central Andino (FCA) plans to replace all eight of the diesel-powered locomotives operating in its fleet with compressed natural gas (CNG)-fueled engines in the next seven months.
Reuters reported that FCA recently unveiled its first CNG-powered cargo and passenger train, which will operate along a railway in the central Andes, traveling between Lima and the central Huancayo region. The news service noted that the two CNG engines powering the locomotive were designed by General Electric Company.
According to Reuters, U.S. company Rail Road Development Corporation holds an 18- percent interest in FCA, which has operated the recently converted train since 1999.
