Brazil may require more ethanol in fuel by November.

Brazil, the world's largest exporter of sugar and ethanol, may boost the biofuel content in its gasoline mix to 25% as early as November as producers reap a record cane crop, according to Antonio de Padua Rodrigues, executive director of the Center- South Sugar and Ethanol Industry Association.

Raising the mandate from 20% would lead mills to turn more cane into fuel, helping push up sugar prices that have dropped as Brazil and other producers increased output.

"The increase in the mix would bring more tranquility to producers,'" Padua said. "If nothing happens, prices will keep falling."

Brazil's government, which has held talks with ethanol producers over the past weeks on raising the biofuel content in gasoline, hasn't said whether it will adopt the increase.
