French Official Says Country to Increase Focus on Biofuels.

CORDIS news service recently reported that French agriculture minister Herve Gaymard revealed earlier this month on French radio station Europe 1 that France is considering ways to help encourage and expand the use of alternative fuels in the country by the beginning of next year.

According to CORDIS, Gaymard said France specifically aims to increase its use of vegetable-based fuels from the current level of one percent to nearly six percent by 2010 in an effort to help reduce the country's power generation costs.

"...[I]f we did not have biofuels today, our energy bill would be 3 billion euro [(about $3.6 billion)]," said Gaymard.
