Aircraft industry demand causes price hike for titanium.

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2006 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

Demand from aircraft manufacturers has seen the prices of titanium increase by 20% in the past year.

The prices are reportedly at a point where other titanium buyers are fearing they may no longer afford to purchase

the metal, according to market sources.

Reuters reports one non-aerospace consumer as saying that the situation is now business-threatening and the lead times are increasing, with prices being out of control.

Titanium is a strong and anti-corrosive metal that is used in aircraft engines, airframes and other parts that are exposed to hostile conditions.
