AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2006 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

The Boeing Company has revealed that European and US based airlines may begin ordering increased numbers of aircraft as early as sometime this year.

According to Reuters, James McNerney, the company's chief executive, said on Tuesday (7 February) that the manufacturer's USD124bn order backlog could grow further this year.

In the US, United Airlines has now emerged from bankruptcy protection and may consider potential orders later this year. Meanwhile German airline Lufthansa is reportedly likely to be making a decision as to whether to update its fleet of Boeing 747-400 aircraft with the new 747-8.

In addition British Airways has said that it is in talks with both Boeing and Airbus.
