Kazakhstan wants competitor for state-owned airline.

The government of Kazakhstan wants a second airline to compete with Air Astana on domestic and international routes.

The airline Air Astana, in which the state holds a 51% stake, has a monopoly on the route between

Astana and Almaty, described as the busiest in the country. The remaining 49% of the airline is owned by UK-based BAe Systems, Reuters reported.
