AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2001 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

US aviation regulators have indicated that they will require inspections of the tail fin on all Airbus A300 aircraft in the United States in an effort to determine why American Airlines flight 587 crashed.

The investigation into the crash has focussed on the distinctive tail fin that is essential for flight, Reuters reported. National Transportation Safety Board investigators inspected flight data information, and materials experts have examined the fin's construction of lightweight composites to determine if this core material failed in any way.

American Airlines has already voluntarily agreed to inspect its 34 A300 aircraft.
