EADS, a European aerospace company, has stated that its aircraft manufacturing unit, Airbus SAS, is currently in talks with airlines around the world regarding delays to deliveries.

A spokesperson for EADS stated,

"There is a group of airlines that is saying they would like to postpone deliveries six to 12 months and we are talking with them now. In two to three weeks we should get a clarification on delivery levels for 2002." It was also indicated that other airlines wished to stick to delivery timetables, but required financial assistance.

The company also confirmed on 8 October its goal of boosting its operating margin by 10% by 2004, indicating that falls in the commercial aviation market could be offset by better defence profits, Reuters reported.

British Aerospace also has a 20% stake in Airbus SAS.
