The UK has agreed to exclude Gibraltar from a European Union 'Single Skies' initiative after pressure from Spain.
The British government said that it took the decision because it wanted to speed up progress
Under the terms of the proposal, parts of EU airspace would be taken out of national control to allow air traffic control systems across the 15-nation bloc to be harmonised.
Spain has reportedly blocked the plan because of its dispute with Britain over the legality of the British-run Gibraltar airport, which Spain claims lies outside the limits of the colony.
