Midwest Express Holdings, a US airline, has chosen Rolls-Royce Plc to provide up to 90 recently-ordered Boeing 717 and Embraer aircraft with new engines.
The engine contract
In related news, the carrier has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for up to 50 Boeing 717-200 aircraft - including an order for 20 717s and options for 30 more. The firm orders would be valued at about USD750m based on list prices according to The Associated Press. The Boeing aircraft will be delivered from February 2003 through 2006.
A spokesperson for the carrier clarified that the orders are not firm and indicated that financing details are still be worked out. The airline has indicated that most of the aircraft will be leased rather than bought according to Reuters.
The 20 Embraer aircraft that the airline has signed an MOU for will be delivered from 2002 through 2005.
