Norway's Gardermoen Airport in Oslo has been ranked as having the best on-time record in Europe.

A survey by the Organisation of European Airlines (OEA) found that 87.9% of all departures from Gardermoen were on time last year. When the airport first opened in 1998, it was plagued by delays and cancellations.

Gardermoen Airport manager Nic Nilsen told local Norwegian newspaper Romerikes Blad: "We are very satisfied and proud."

Madrid airport, Spain came bottom of the OEA list with only 36.4% of all departures on time, while Italy's new Malpensa airport outside Milan had just 36.6% of flights leaving on schedule.
