Jet Airways will decide on aircraft order after announcement of new government policy.

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2003 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

Indian domestic airline Jet Airways has said that its delivery of ten Embraer aircraft will depend on a new government policy.

The airline's chief operating officer has said that the aircraft order will be decided

after the government announces its policy on whether private domestic airlines can operate foreign routes. Currently, only two state-owned carriers, Air India and Indian Airlines, are allowed to fly international routes, but the government has said it would allow private carriers to fly to neighbouring Sri Lanka. However, the change has not yet been approved by the cabinet.

Jet Airways has signed a deal to buy ten regional jets. Deliveries were originally scheduled for between 2004 and 2007 but were postponed to 2005 due to a slump in air travel after the 11 September 2001 terrorist attacks, reported Reuters.
