The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has reportedly ordered the US-based discount carrier Pro Air to stop all flights because of serious aircraft safety problems.
According to The Associated Press, the FAA has revoked Pro Air's operating certificate saying that the airline 'lacks the qualifications required of the holder of an air carrier certificate.' The FAA said that the airline failed to comply with federal aviation regulations with 'continuing maintenance, oversight, quality control and record-keeping problems.' Under FAA rules, Pro Air has 10 days to appeal the order but cannot operate unless the order is reversed.
Meanwhile Northwest Airlines has said that it would accept confirmed tickets on Pro Air flights that were issued on or before 18 September on a stand-by basis at no extra charge. The offer applies only to Pro Air passengers left stranded by the FAA order.
