Alaska Airlines maintenance supervisor guilty of record falsification.
AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2000 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD
An Alaska Airlines supervisor has been found guilty of falsifying an aircraft-maintenance record from 1998.
The US Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) finding is related to an allegation brought against Alaska Airlines by a company 'whistleblower' in 1998 and is not related to the 31 January crash of flight 261.
The FAA found that a California-based supervisor falsely stated on 1 December 1998 that a throttle problem on an MD-80 aircraft had been fixed. The man had been ordered to surrender his mechanic's licence but the order was stayed after he filed an appeal with an administrative law judge according to the Seattle Times.
The FAA is apparently still reviewing cases involving two other Alaska Airlines supervisors located in California who are also accused of falsifying maintenance records in 1998.
