An Alaska Airlines MD-80 jet aircraft was put out of service for the Fourth of July weekend when a catering truck smashed into it at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
The aircraft was parked and passenger-free when the truck hit its wing tip with such force that the whole aircraft was moved several feet and the roof of the truck was nearly sheared off.
A spokesperson for Alaska Airlines, which is blameless in the incident according to airport authorities, has stated that the incident will probably mean some flights are delayed over the weekend.
The aircraft can carry 140 passengers and was expected to make up to six flights per day over the weekend.
