British Airways suspends Heathrow flights.
AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2005 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD
British Airways was reportedly forced to suspend all of its departures from London's Heathrow Airport on Thursday afternoon (11 August).
The decision was made after some airline employees walked out in support of 800 workers dismissed from catering company Gate Gourmet after what it called an unofficial strike. The industrial dispute between Gate Gourmet and its staff had already caused British Airways' long-haul flights departing from Heathrow to leave without food on board on Wednesday and Thursday.
In addition four British Airways flights were cancelled on Wednesday because of a lack of food.
According to the BBC, British Airways baggage handlers, loaders and bus drivers walked off the job on Thursday in sympathy with the catering workers.
