Airbus announces new orders.

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2005 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

European aircraft maker Airbus unveiled last-minute orders at the Paris Air Show on Friday (17 June).

The newest orders, worth USD3.6bn, include 40 aircraft from the single-aisle A320 family from an unidentified

airline which would make the announcement soon, as well as 18 A319 jets worth USD55m each sold to low-cost German airline Germanwings. In addition, an unnamed Saudi buyer purchased a long-range four-engined A340-600 jet for private use.

The total of Airbus orders, excluding the commitment for 40 A320s from an undisclosed airline, is 280 aircraft worth USD33.5bn at list prices. Airbus said that it had outsold Boeing by a margin of more than two to one at Le Bourget.

Boeing, however, continues to outsell Airbus in the mid-size aircraft market and a number of industry analysts expect it to become leader of global sales in 2005.
