Airbus

has reportedly selected the Mobile Downtown Airport, Mobile, Ala; Melbourne International Airport, Melbourne, Fla; Stennis International Airport, Kiln, Miss; and Charleston International Airport, North Charleston, S.C. to compete for the USD600m factory. It has been said that the new factory could start operations as early as next year, according to The Associated Press.

EADS North America said that the selected locations best meet the demands for transportation, personnel and manufacturing for a large military aircraft assembly. The finalists will have to submit a detailed bid by the end of May and EADS North America reportedly expects to select a site by July.
