An engine on an Airbus A320 operated by United Airlines' discount carrier Ted caught fire yesterday (26 December) at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

According to The Associated Press, flames emerged from the engine as the aircraft taxied to a runway. Airport spokesman Steve Belleme said that none of the 138 people on board were injured. The passengers stayed on the aircraft as it returned to the gate after the fire had been extinguished by emergency workers.

The incident led to the closure of the airport's main runway for about 20 minutes. The fire was caused by a compressor.
