Germany not planning to acquire a direct stake in EADS - claim.

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2006 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

Germany is not planning to acquire a direct stake in the European aerospace group EADS, the parent company of aircraft maker Airbus.

A senior government official quoted by Reuters, who requested anonymity because

of the sensitivity of the issue, said that the government is not planning to get a direct stake via the state bank KfW or other federal or state institutions.

According to Reuters, Germany has been considering ways to safeguard its influence in EADS if core shareholder DaimlerChrysler reduces its 22.5% stake by 7.5% as it has said it wants to.

The German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said Germany wants to keep the German-French parity in the group and that the government is concerned that a decision by DaimlerChrysler to reduce its stake could diminish Germany's influence, especially at a time when Airbus wants to carry out substantial cost cuts.
