Pennsylvania governor awards grants for airport projects.

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2006 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell has announced an investment of USD5m to help 12 airports with projects designed to improve and expand terminals, runways and hangars.

The grants are administered by PennDOT's

Bureau of Aviation.

The governor said that many Pennsylvanians are unaware of the economic impact of local, general aviation airports and that aviation is responsible for 288,000 jobs, and contributes USD5.6bn annually in payroll and USD12.6bn to the economy.

The grants have been awarded to Bedford County Airport, Doylestown Airport, John Murtha Johnstown-Cambria County Airport, Port Meadville Airport, Harrisburg International Airport, Lancaster Airport, Queen City Airport, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport, Bradford Regional Airport, Grove City Airport, Philadelphia International Airport and Venango Regional Airport.
