Oracle Corp and Boeing plan online sales of aircraft parts.

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2000 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

With the first sale of a private jet aircraft having recently taken place via an online auction it is unsurprising that Oracle Corp and Boeing Co have announced plans for the online sale of aircraft parts.

The

two companies are apparently in the early stages of developing an electronic marketplace for aircraft parts, with the intention of linking Boeing Co, and perhaps other aircraft manufacturers, with other companies worldwide that supply related parts and services.

The main impetus behind the project is to reduce the expenses, time and paperwork associated with aircraft construction. However, the project is still part of the growing popularity of e-commerce option for many diverse industries, and is seen as a good move for Oracle, which is one of the world`s largest suppliers of database software.

Neither Boeing nor Oracle have confirmed the joint venture, which was first reported on Bloomberg.com, but Oracle`s chairman was reported last week as saying that his company was keen to establish more ventures similar to AutoExchange, which involves Ford Motor Co, the automobile manufacturer according to WSJ.
