UK wants to fight aviation emissions with trading scheme and tax on passengers - claim.

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2006 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

The British climate change minister Ian Pearson has said that the United Kingdom would prefer to curb aviation greenhouse gas emissions with a European trading scheme and a potential tax on passengers rather than a British

tax on aircraft fuel.

According to Reuters, Britain would like to see a tough approach to include the aviation sector in a European carbon trading scheme rather than a unilateral tax on jet fuel.

The minister also said that he does not think a unilateral fuel tax would be effective. The UK is however considering a tax on air passengers. The country also wants to include all flights in and outside Europe in the European Union carbon trading scheme and not just flights within Europe.
