Man charged for shipping US-built aircraft parts to Iran.

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2000 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

A British man has been charged with illegally shipping aircraft parts manufactured in the USA to Iran.

The man pleaded guilty to the charges on 20 December.

The parts were apparently purchased from Pratt

& Whitney and then shipped form the man`s company base in Canada to Spain and England and then on to Iran.

Government officials apparently discovered the operation after they arrested the defendant at the Canadian-US border on 2 March with parts in his possession.

The US has had an embargo on the supply of aircraft parts to Iran since May 1995 as parts such as were being shipped by the man could be used in Iranian Air Force aircraft and Lockheed C130 troop transport aircraft.
