ASPCA proposes new law to improve air travel for pets.

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2002 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) is warning pet owners of the hazards involved in flying their pets on airlines.

According to the ASPCA, each year approximately 5,000 animals

are lost, injured, or die because of the dangerous conditions in aircraft cargo holds. Due to the high number of incidents, the society has asked the US Federal Aviation Administration to adopt regulations to improve air travel for pets.

The proposed law would create a system to track animals flown and identify circumstances that have led to an animal's injury, death or loss, thus helping to prevent or minimize any future incidents.
