Greek strike disrupts access to Athens International Airport.

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2005 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

Access to Athens International Airport was interrupted yesterday (10 February) due to a 24-hour strike stopping trains throughout Greece.

The strike had been judged illegal by a court in Athens and while the Athens

Metro and the suburban rail system of the city did not operate services to the airport, the remaining metro services in the Greek capital were running normally.

The strike was a protest against plans to restructure the Greek Railways Organisation (OSE), The Associated Press reported. The employees reportedly fear job losses from the restructuring, which OSE says is necessary for complying with European Union directives.
