Forest fires cause flight delays in Indonesia.

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2004 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

Smoke and haze from forest fires in Indonesia have caused disruption to flights due to the bad visibility.

The fires around the city of Jambi have led to flight disruptions and breathing problems according to the head of the city's Sultan Thaha Airport. The thickening haze has reduced pilots' visibility and is causing delays to flights around the country.

Airport officials said that the haze is mainly delaying morning flights as that is when it is at its worse but the morning delays are having a knock-on effect on flights for the rest of day. The fires in the Berbak National Park are threatening the area's abundance of unique animal and plant life, reports The Associated Press.
