AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2004 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

The US Defense Department has reportedly spent an estimated USD100m on airline tickets that were not used over a six-year period. The department also failed to seek refunds even though the tickets were reimbursable, according

to congressional investigators.

IATA director-general and CEO Giovanni Bisignani has praised the high performance and outstanding services at Bahrain International Airport. Bisignani stressed the advanced level of services at the airport during the Formula One race in April and also praised the transport minister's support in developing the aviation sector along with the safety and security requirements to enhance the movements of airlines, reported the Bahrain Tribune.

American Airlines and its regional partner, American Eagle, are to introduce a new nonstop service to Nassau from both New York and Dallas/Fort Worth. The airlines will operate seasonal weekend flights to Nassau from both cities from 3 July 2004. The routes will be flown on Saturdays and Sundays through to 5 September, using Boeing Super 80 aircraft.
