The New Tokyo International Airport Authority has reportedly conducted a test to determine the amount of noise generated from the second runway at Narita airport.

The test was requested by municipalities around

the airport in Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo. The authority measured the noise levels at 16 locations near the runway and immediately below the flight route, while two jet aircraft - belonging to Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways - flew their actual routes above the airport and between Tonegawa River and Kujukurihama.

The second runway, scheduled to open on 18 April 2002, is expected to accommodate medium-size passenger aircraft for domestic flights and short-haul overseas flights linking Narita and Asian countries, Kyodo News reported.
