FAA certifies Telair's Hardened Unit Load Device.

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2002 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has certified Telair International's Hardened Unit Load Device (HULD) and has awarded it with a Technical Standard Order (TSO).

The HULD - designed for use in wide

body aircraft - is the first in the United States to pass the FAA's blast resistant container test. During the test the baggage container - which is reinforced with DuPont's Kevlar brand fibre - successfully contained the entire explosion and all associated fragments.

JetBlue and Alaska Airlines have adopted Kevlar in their designs of reinforced cockpit doors and bulkheads following the 11 September terrorist attacks.
