To better serve its Dauphin County patients, a Wormleysburg-based cardiology practice will open a Lower Paxton Township office in early October. The practice, formerly known as Moffitt, Pease & Lim Cardiology Inc., is changing its name to Moffitt Heart & Vascular Group.
The new 4,000-square-foot
The Hershey office stopped seeing patients at the beginning of September, said Louis Gehosky, Moffitt Heart & Vascular Group's executive director.
The practice opened a new office in Lower Paxton Township to be closer to Community General Osteopathic Hospital, Gehosky said.
"A lot of our patients use that hospital, and the new office location makes it more convenient for everyone," he said.
The Lower Paxton Township office will be open five days a week, while the Hershey location was only open three half-days per week, Gehosky said. The new office will offer a full range of cardiology services, including diagnostic procedures such as stress tests.
The office will offer Enhanced
External Counterpulsation, or EECP. EECP is a treatment for angina, which is severe chest pain caused by an insufficient blood supply to the heart. Moffitt Heart & Vascular Group started offering the EECP procedure in July, Dr. Jeffrey Mandak said in an earlier interview with the Business Journal. Mandak is one of the practice's cardiologists.
During the EECP procedure, three sets of cuffs are wrapped around a patient's calves, lower thighs and upper thighs. The cuffs inflate and deflate at intervals based on the patient's heartbeat, increasing and assisting blood flow to the heart.
The practice changed its name to Moffitt Heart & Vascular Group to better reflect the services it provides, Gehosky said.
Once concentrated on treating the coronary vessels of the heart, the practice now treats other parts of the vascular system, such as the carotid arteries of the neck, he added.
"The new name reflects what we do and not who we are," Gehosky said.
In addition to the new Lower Paxton Township office, Moffitt Heart & Vascular Group has offices in Wormleysburg, Carlisle and McConnellsburg, Fulton County. The practice has 16 cardiologists and had about 16,000 patients last year, Gehosky said.
Moffitt Heart & Vascular Group might add two cardiologists next year, but the practice has no plans to open more offices, Gehosky added.
