Intermec adds card reader option to 6808 portable printer. (New Products).

For retailers who want to bring the point of purchase right to the customer, Intermec Technologies Corp. has added a card reader option to its 6808 portable direct thermal receipt printer. The card reader reads both smart cards and traditional magnetic stripes automatically, and its half-inch profile is less than one-third the size of comparable readers.

The 6808 provides exceptional print clarity, with the versatile ability to print graphics, bar codes and logos. Small, lightweight, durable and weather resistant, the 6808 is flexible enough for a variety of applications including retail, home delivery, warehouse, pre-sales, route sales and field service.

Both the printer and card reader have sleep modes for conservation of its internal, user-rechargeable battery. The printer wakes up when it senses data input; the card reader wakes up when a card is inserted. The 6808 can be recharged using a standard AC power adapter or vehicle cigarette lighter power adapter and can run for 2,200-inch print duration using a single battery.

The 6808 prints in a 40-column format with the option of printing compressed 80-column receipts. Both standard and linerless labels can be used. The printer includes three resident fonts; additional fonts can be downloaded for more print options.
