Salvation Army gets 200,000 SF in Jersey City for relief supplies.

The Salvation Army has been given approximately 200,000 SF of space in Jersey City to house its relief supplies and volunteers, according to Jeffrey Donnelly, an associate of Emmes Asset Management Corp. The space is part of the Lackawanna Building, a 1-million-plus-SF building located at 629

Grove St. near the Holland Tunnel in Jersey City. The building, which is owned by an investor group that includes an affiliate of Emmes, will be available to the volunteers of the Salvation Army for at least the next three months, says Donnelly.

Initially, space in the building will house truckloads of relief supplies arriving from throughout the country. Dust masks, charcoal filter respirators, clothing, gloves, medicine, eye wash, pillows, blankets and other essential items for the relief workers involved in the cleanup of the World Trade Center site are expected to be housed at the building.

"This is a very difficult time for New Yorkers as well as all Americans, and we've all been deeply saddened by the tragic events of Sept. 11," says Donnelly. "At my company, as at so many others, we're trying to do whatever we can to help. We heard the Salvation Army express the need for space on a radio program, and within a half hour, our partners had identified the space and reached out to representatives of the Salvation Army. That quick action is what has characterized this country's response to the tragedy."
