These new facilities will create about 200 jobs in addition to the existing 100 jobs at its Brooklyn facilities.
Federal Jeans President Yoram Moussaieff, Economic Development Corporation president Andrew M. Alper, and Department of Small Business Services Commissioner Robert W. Walsh joined the Mayor Michael Bloomberg for the announcement at Federal Jeans headquarters in the East New York Industrial Park last week.
"Federal Jeans' plan to expand its operations will more than triple the number of its employees in New York City," said Bloomberg.
"This is in addition to the company's Brooklyn headquarters and its showroom in Manhattan, and will make Federal Jeans a presence in four of our five boroughs." Federal Jeans President Moussaieff said, "EDC's maintenance and improvement programs make it easy to do business in the industrial parks.
"And EDC's Real Estate Division has been invaluable in helping us find the right property for our expansion."
In the Bronx, Federal Jeans plans to invest $10.5 million to construct a one-story, 118,000-s/f warehouse and distribution facility on a City-owned vacant lot at Seward and Zerega Avenues.
The building will consist of about 103,000 s/f of warehouse space and 15,000 s/f of office space.
The Bronx project is a result of a Requests for Proposals issued by EDC on behalf of the City in keeping with the Administrations commitment to foster development of quality industrial space to enhance the growth of the city's vital industrial sector. In Far Rockaway, Queens, the company plans to build a 150,000 s/f light manufacturing and distribution facility on a 270,000 s/f vacant lot located between Beach 77th and Beach 84th streets, within the Rockaway Empire Zone and Arverne Urban Renewal Area, one of ten Empire Zones throughout the City managed by SBS.
The company estimates the cost of this project at $10 million.
