Brian Waterman honored by YM/WREA at Jan. 17 event. (Transcripts).

Brian S. Waterman, executive vice president and principal of Newmark & Company Real Estate, Inc. was honored as the 2001 Young Man of the Year by the Young Men's/Women's Real Estate Association (YM/WREA).

The award was presented at the Real Estate Board of New York's annual banquet

on Jan. 17. Waterman received the honor in recognition for his achievements as a real estate professional as well as for his dedication to community involvement.

Since joining Newmark & Company Real Estate, Inc. in 1985, Waterman has negotiated leasing transactions in excess of $700 million, becoming a principal of the firm in 2000. During his 16 years in real estate, Waterman has represented such prominent tenants as Sony Corporation, Mizuho Capital (a division of Fuji Capital), Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., Goldman Sachs, American Stock Transfer and Trust Co. and Banco Totta & Acores.

Waterman has also represented industry-leading property owners including Amtrust, Inc., Canadian Imperial Bank Corporation, Emmes & Company, Apollo Partners, Taconic Investment Partners, Archon Group and Goldman Sachs.

In 2001, Waterman completed 96 leasing transactions totaling 1.2 million SF while continuing his longtime commitment to several not-for-profit organizations and professional associations. He is a member of the Real Estate Board of New York and the former vice chairman and membership chairman of the Young Men's/Women's Real Estate Association, an organization which he has been involved with since 1992.

Waterman also works extensively with Federation Employment and Guidance Service (FEGS) as a fundraiser, holding leadership positions on three of its boards including chairman of the All Sector Technology Group, chairman of HR Dynamics and president of Staff Resources, Inc.
