Small Business Q & A

I am working hard at diversifying my marketing dollars based on my local market and have invested the bulk of my advertising dollars in a newspaper ad. Is this the right thing to do? Do people read the paper anymore?

Newspaper advertising is a great way to sell your stuff if your market has been clearly defined and the ad has the right formula.

Indeed many people do still read the paper. The question is "Does your target market still read the paper?"

You'll find out with your advertising campaigns. Make sure you track them very closely to ensure you are getting a return on your investment. Newspaper advertising has a very short shelf life and you will know right away whether your ads are hitting the spot or not.

You may have to tweak and adjust the ads to get the result you are seeking. Make sure your ad has the right structure to appeal to your audience. Hop on over and read One Ad Is Not a Marketing Campaign for some pointers.

What about you? Have you tried newspaper advertising? Tell me what you think about it by leaving a comment.

You're talking about reaching about the target market... and I dont think giving an ad in a newspaper serves that purpose. many people who are not interested in the topic skip it while those who are never find the ad! I was in a dilemma myself some time ago until a friend recommended this tool called MyPRGenie(http://www.myprgenie.com/business/). It smartly connects the buyer to the right sellers and gives you a large audience base. I would recommend everyone to try it for their businesses.

I do agree that targeting is tough in the print news market, but some businesses do much better with that medium. The key to any success when it comes to marketing is making sure you know who your customer is, where and how they look for those things they seek.
