CROWN ROT

Cause: Phytophthora

Description: This disease affects most fruit and nut trees. Cankers appear on the soil line. Leaves turn yellow, then red and purple. New or replanted orchards are especially susceptible.

Found: Warm, moist climates

Possible Controls: Fixed copper, Aliette (fosetyl-al, Aventis)

DOWNY MILDEW

Cause: Plasmopora viticola

Description: Young infected leaves have small, greenishyellow spots which will become pale. On the underside of the leaf, a dense white fungus develops. Severely infected leaves will turn brown and wither before dropping. Fruit will turn brown and soft, becoming covered with growth before wrinkling and darkening.
