HDR Engineering acquires Washington firm

HDR Engineering Inc., an architectural-engineering firm headquartered in Seattle, has acquired Economic and Engineering Services Inc., also based in Washington.

Under terms of the acquisition, the acquired company will change its name to HDR/EES.

Economic and Engineering Services

was founded in 1978 and focuses mainly on providing consulting and engineering services to municipal governments and public utilities. The company employs 70 people spread between a Portland office and four Washington locations in Bellevue, Olympia, Mount Vernon and Tri-Cities.

Wade E. Hathhorn, president of the company, said the acquisition would allow his firm to expand services for its clients while providing better career opportunities for its employees.

HDR is highly esteemed in the water industry, and (Economic and Engineering Services) is proud to be part of that tradition, Hathhorn said.

HDR, which was founded in 1975, employs more than 350 people in Washington offices in Bellevue, East Wenatchee, Pasco, Port Orchard and Spokane. The company also has offices in Portland; Boise, Idaho; Missoula, Mont.; and Anchorage, Alaska.

George A. Little, HDR president, said the acquisition will help boost his company's visibility to public clients.
