Metro finalizes Beaver Creek Greenway land acquisition

Last week, Metro finalized a deal to acquire 62.6 acres of the Beaver Creek Greenway Corridor from Mt Hood Community College. The space, valued at $196,020, is one of the last major acquisitions in Metro's $135.6 million open spaces acquisition program that

began in 1996.

Though owned by the college, the land was both in the city limits of Gresham and the city limits of Troutdale. All metro open space acquisitions require that a local jurisdiction act as the governing body of the property - in this case determined to be Troutdale - so the space had to be de-annexed from Gresham into Troutdale.

Because of the land-use public process and the legal details of registering the space, the deal took almost five years to complete, said William Eadie, Metro's open spaces real estate negotiator.

It's been a popular acquisition because Beaver Creek is a valuable riparian area out there, he said, adding that there will be a master plan developed for the Beaver Creek region when the deal is complete. We have acquired what we think we can acquire in that area.
