"If you ask an average customer when they last thought about their bed frame, the typical answer would be, 'when I stubbed my toe,"' says Richard Polevoy CEO of Knickerbocker Bed Company, Carlstadt. The progressive company and its design team have found several solutions to the all-too-common problem of ineffective and unwieldy bed frames by creating innovative mattress support systems that are user-friendly and less cumbersome. Polevoy is proud that the company has been successful in proactively finding a unique niche in the bed furniture market.
The Knickerbocker Bed Company, founded in 1919, is a thirdgeneration, family-run business, which currently owns 12 patents and has several patents pending. The company originated from a wellknown New York-based, bed frame manufacturer that went bankrupt due to problems with procuring materials during World War I. The Knickerbocker name was always associated with the mattress industry, but was revitalized after World War I by the Polevoy family. During the past 85 years, the company has evolved into an organization strictly run by family members in charge of all management functions.
