Anyone who's tried online matchmaking knows that sometimes you end up with a creep. But can you weed out the outright criminals before the date? Shore Network Connections says you can, and is offering paid members of its dating site, TheBadge.org, free use of its sister site that offers detailed background

checks.

According to the company, the Website, investigationsnow.com, performs a "detailed and discreet" rundown on "potential friends or dates."

"There has been a lot of controversy about online dating sites and the media has been complaining that there is no way for members to perform background checks on potential dates," said Kenneth Bachman, president of the Northfield-based company. "For members ofTheBadge.org, this is no longer a concern because they have the ability to make systematic checks on future partners."

Bachman, a Garden State police officer, started TheBadge.org in March as an online personals Website for police officers, fire fighters and emergency services personnel. According to the Shore Network Connections Website, the six sites in the Shore family, which also include a travel site, average 1 million monthly visitors.
