Asia turns up the volume

The Port of New York and New Jersey moves more goods from Asia than any other place in the world. In fact, Asian imports, including furniture, clothing, linens and lighting products, now account for 41% of the cargo streaming through the facilities. For the first time, Asian goods surpassed those

coming from Europe. In the first half of 2003, imports from Far East Asia and Southeast Asia grew by 38% and 31%, respectively. This surge helped boost container volumes at the port by 14.6% to a value of $42.9 billion.
