EAST RUTHERFORD The New York Giants football team have asked a Superior Court judge in Bergen County to force the 4.8 million-sq.-ft. Xanadu entertainment, office and hotel complex to close down on the

team's home game days. The Giants claim Xanadu would violate the team's lease rights to the property. It says the lease prohibits any operations at the Meadowlands Sports Complex that may compete or conflict with game-day operations. Xanadu, which is being developed in the Meadowlands by The Mills Corp. and Mack-Cali, broke ground in March and is expected to open in 2007. The complex will feature attractions such as a minor league baseball stadium, arcades and indoor skiing.

Meanwhile, the New York Jets, the Giants' stadium-mates, are being courted by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg to move to Queens and by the town of Sayreville. CB Richard Ellis broker Bill Caruso has visited the Jets and pitched a 200-acre brownfield owned by Sayreville as a possible location for a new stadium the team wants to build. The land is off the Garden State Parkway near the Driscoll Bridge and was formerly owned by National Lead. Acting Governor Richard Codey has put the state's support into keeping the Jets at the Meadowlands in new stadium that would be shared with the Giants football team.
