Atlantic City is a few signatures away from having to compete with a new Catskills casino. The casino, which could open as early as the end of this year, would be only 90 miles from New York City, the source of up to 40% of Atlantic City's revenue. It would also be a shorter drive for some northern

Jersey residents than Atlantic City. New York Governor George Pataki and the Mohawk Tribe signed a deal that would authorize both the Casino near Monticello and one at the St. Regis reservation near Hogansburg. The agreement still needs approval from a tribal group, the state legislature, the Department of Interior and Congress.
