National Finance Center employees met at the New Orleans Business and Industrial District enterprise center, 13801 Old Gentilly Road, to discuss the possible privatization of the Federal Thrift Savings Plan's administration. The finance center employs roughly 1,200 workers who provide administrative
support and human resources services for federal agencies. The Thrift Savings Plan is a retirement fund for millions of federal employees, and the contract is worth more than $50 million. Complaints have arisen over employee performance at the finance center. Privatization would eliminate 400 jobs from the finance center's headquarters in eastern New Orleans.
