IU Northwest is organized into eight degree-granting academic units, namely the School of Nursing and Health Professions consisting of Allied Health, Dental Education and Nursing; the College of Arts and Sciences; School of Business and Economics; Division of Social Work; School of Education; Division of Continuing Studies; Division of Labor Studies; and the School of Public and Environmental Affairs.
Award-winning, highly qualified and experienced faculty members teach at IU Northwest, with more than 83 percent having doctorates or the highest degree available in their field.
While Indiana University's history in northwest Indiana dates back to 1922, the present site of the IU Northwest campus was opened in 1959. Since that time, the campus has grown to 36 acres and 11 academic buildings. More than 21,000 students have earned degrees at IU Northwest and are making important professional contributions in fields ranging from business and law to heath care and education. Most graduates of IU Northwest remain in northwest Indiana to live and work, and significantly contribute to the economic, social, political and cultural quality of life in the region. Many graduates occupy positions of prominence in business, government, industry, the arts and other vital areas of the community. Faculty and staff at IU Northwest are also deeply engaged in the community--many through individual community service or through their respective academic areas or departments. In the latter capacity, they contribute to the community in their areas of expertise through seminars, conferences, research, books, articles, consultation and other forms of communication.
