The Board of Directors of the Colorado Business Committee for the Arts, in conjunction with KPMG LLP and the Colorado Council on the Arts, cordially invite you to the 14th Annual Business in the Arts Awards Luncheon and 2001 Governor's Awards for Excellence in the Arts

Whether through

display of art, educational and volunteer outreach, or financial support, Colorado's corporate culture places a high value on supporting programs in the arts. The Colorado Business Committee for the Arts, founded in 1984 by Colorado business leaders, encourages and enhances this support. CBCA is one of nine affiliates of the national Business Committee for the Arts established by David Rockefeller in 1967. Each year the CBCA recognizes and awards Colorado businesses that have demonstrated exceptional support and partnership with the arts.

The 2001 Business in the Arts Award Winners are:

Small Business Winner, East West Partners

East West Partners believe the arts are a vital part of a community. Beginning with the construction of Beaver creak in the 1980's, a community in which the arts are central, East West Partners has continued to support the cultural life of the communities in which it does business. East West created The Riverfront Park community Foundation, which is creatively funded through a transfer tax when Riverfront Park properties are sold. This neighborhood-funded program will provide opportunities and education in the arts for residents in the downtown Denver area. East West's contributions to the arts include financial support to The Festival of Trees, The Denver International Film Festival, The Greenway Foundation, colorado Symphony's cinderella Ball, and the University of Denver Symphony.

Large Business Winner, the Daily Camera

A solid commitment to communication, understanding, and financial support of the arts in Boulder County makes the Daily Camera a prized arts supporter. Last year, the Daily Camera donated more than $266,717 to arts entities. These arts organizations included Peak Arts, Open Studios, Arts & Humanities Assembly of Boulder, Nomad Theatre, Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art. Colorado Shakespeare Festival, University of Colorado Artist Series, and the Chautauqua Association. The Daily Camera also donates advertising and other services to over 30 arts organizations each year. Indicative of the Daily Camera's long-term commitment to the arts, the newspaper has supported the Colorado Music Festival since the founding twenty-five years ago.

Medium Business Winner, StorageTek

StorageTek is committed to building a more dynamic community and business environment. Over 600 works of art focusing on Colorado artists are on display at the Louisville campus creating an arts-rich work environment. Three on-site art galleries serve as venues for individual employee art shows throughout the year. The company participates in the On My Own Time employee art show, the Corporate Collections art exhibit where a portion of their collection of artwork is on public display with other company collections, and CBCA's Leadership Arts leadership development program. Additionally, StorageTek is a major sponsor of Boulder Open Studios and the Boulder Library Open Studios art show.

Leadership Award Winner John Hickenlooper, Chief Executive Officer, Wynkoop Brewing Company

As a Trustee of the Denver Art Museum since 1997, John has played a significant role in the museum's efforts to attract younger people in the community to the museum. He spearheaded the development of a new group called CultureHaus which offers a variety of arts educational and social programs for people in their 20's, 30's and 40's. John is Vice Chair of the Colorado Business Committee for the Arts and was the founding Chair of the Corporate Giving Committee for the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. Since John opened the Wynkoop Brewery in 1988, he has exhibited the works of local artists throughout the brewpub and encouraged their exposure. Additionally, the Wynkoop consistently supports nonprofit arts organizations and independent art galleries with beer donations.

For Distinguished Service to the Arts Manitou Springs, Business of Art Center

Contributing to the economic development and the quality of life of the Pikes Peak region, the Business of Art Center mentors artists and exposes the public to the artist's world. This creative facility focuses on helping artists with business practices and professional development, while educating and engaging the public with a deeper understanding of the artist, the creative process, and the value of art.

Lake City, Lake City Arts Council

Founded in 1991, the Lake City Arts Council enhances a small, remote mountain town by providing opportunities for residents and visitors to experience the arts in a myriad of ways. The public may participate in local musical and dramatic productions, local artists' exhibits, dances, "Second Saturday" local talent shows and several youth-oriented programs.

For Artistic Achievement

Denver, Center for Visual Arts, The Metropolitan Stale College of Denver

The Center for Visual Arts, a project of The Metropolitan State College of Denver, was founded in 1990 as a non-profit organization. The Center, free and accessible to the entire public, is the only art center in Denver that organizes and hosts exhibitions and programs of culturally diverse artists of regional, national, and international significance. It also is the only Denver art center that showcases artists of color throughout the year.

Pueblo, Williams Studio

Both ceramists Ken and Judith Williams have completed over 70 private and public commissions. Examples of their beautiful and unique brick carvings are found in many places - from Connecticut to Mexico. Two of their many works in Pueblo consist of the one and one-fourth mile long sound barrier of carved concrete designed for Highway 47, and the flood control wall designed for 1-25. Public buildings decorated with their unique brick sculptures include the School District 60 Administration Building, the donor wall in the Occhiato Center at the University of Southern Colorado, and the new Buell Children's Museum.
